My Experience At The Chris Paul Basketball Camp

I spent this past week at a brand new camp sponsored by NBA All-Star Chris Paul. Partnering up with some top high school coaches from around the area, Chris Paul and his crew drilled us, taught us, and a lot more things that helped us improve our basketball skills.
The camp was divided into two age groups. One for kids 7-10 years old (this was in the morning) and one for kids 11-18 years old (this was in the afternoon). One of the best things about the camp was the fact that Chris Paul really did get personal with everyone there.
Every single person there got to see CP3 himself giving speeches and pep talks. Most of these were stories about growing up, his time with the Hornets, and his experience in China with the US national team last summer.
Drills involved all facets of the game, some of which included the basics like dribbling/ball handling, shooting, passing, rebounding, and others that focused on action away from the ball (i.e. picks). Everyone really seemed to benefit from the drills and advice given to them during the camp.
After drill sets, the campers would be divided into teams by their ages and they played 5 on 5 scrimmage games on teams from 8-10 players. The teams would compete to play in the championship game, which took place on Wednesday. Chris Paul and others would spectate the games, and a camper of the day would be chosen for either their excellent play, their attitude toward the game, or anything else significant that may have occurred.
Another nice touch to it all was the fact that we had the chance to challenge Chris Paul himself in different contests. If we beat him in the contests, they’d reward us with prizes.
Personally, I got a lot out of it and really feel like my basketball skills improved noticeably from my time spent at the camp. While the drills were draining and difficult, they became easier over time.
The games really gave me an opportunity to go against some of the better high school players from around the US, and also to learn some more in the game skills department. I’ll never forget the experience I had at this camp, learning from perhaps the best point guard today, and listening to his advice and taking it to heart. I recommend this camp to any young basketball players who may be looking for a little bit more to really put them over the top because I promise you, you will pick something up at this camp.
Jonathan Blanchard is an NBA star in the making, but has a long way to go before he can think about getting there. He is always happy to discuss basketball at his favorite NBA Basketball forum and is always hungry for sports trivia wherever there are questions.
