NFL Lockout May Have An End In Sight
Final issues need to be worked out for the players before their vote on the NFL owners’ CBA resolution.
NFL Lockout is expected to end within the week and the free agency should begin as early as next Saturday.
Betrayal was felt by the players this week and the agreement was not signed as planned. Owners signed the agreement Thursday but the players stated that they did not receive a copy of the new CBA until after the conference call Thursday night.
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth tweeted, “Fans PLEASE understand we received the deal late last night. Stayed up late & up early today reviewing 200+ pages… We are on top of it!!!”
NFL players will be heading to Washington on Monday to review and vote on the final details of the new CBA which is a proposed 10 agreement.
The progress made this weekend has given much hope to a full 2011 NFL Football season even though the Hall of Fame game between the Bears and the Rams has been cancelled.
Hopes are high that if things continue as hoped, there will be no more loss of games.
There is even a tentative agreement in place allowing the players to show up Wednesday to get their recertification process as a union started.
In order for the union recertification to take place, there will have to be a court approved signed agreement to the settlement prior. Then the players can recertify as a union at team facilities.
The two sides are making remarkable progress and ironing out a couple final points before Monday.
The problem that could come is that there could be a disagreement over the last final issues which could cause this tentative deal to unravel.
The free agency was supposed to start on Wednesday, but could start next Saturday.
The scramble to put the leagues team together in time is expected to be a crazy frantic mess.
Each team will need a 90 man roster, re-sign their own free agents, sign college and professional free agents and then the team of players will have to push themselves to get their bodies and minds into top physical condition in time to play football.
After the free agency, training camps will get underway.
This sequence of events needs to happen as fluidly and quickly as to avoid any more cancelled games this season.
The NFL regular season is currently scheduled to kick-off on September 8.
