Will Vikings’ Brett Favre’s Ankle Hold Up?
The Favre Saga Continues…
A lot of eyes are on Minnesota’s #4, Brett Favre, who returned for another year with the Vikings after 3 teammates Steve Hutchinson, Jared Allen and Ryan Longwell paid a visit to him at his home recently.
The three men flew to Mississippi to beg the nearly 41 year old into coming back for one more year. After an overnight stay and several hours of talking, Favre said, “OK. Let’s do it.”
Favre is just coming off his third ankle surgery and he is already taking lubricant injections to relieve the pain.
Addressing the injections with a good sense of humor, Favre stated, “It’s like a grease fitting.”
The ankle could present a problem on the field depending on the pain and mobility, but Favre doesn’t plan on using anything stronger than Motrin if at all possible.
“It’s catching up with me, all this stuff,” said Favre, who turns 41 in October.
After being asked by Sports Illustrated’s Peter King if he thinks he will last the entire season.
“I have no idea, really,” Favre said. “My ankle just seems to get easier to sprain. I know everyone thinks the New Orleans game killed me, but it was bad before then. Now we’ll see if I can make it. My mind’s telling me one thing, but my body’s telling me something else.”
Drafted in 1991 by the Atlanta Falcons, Brett Favre is beginning his 20th year in the NFL with the feeling he has nothing more to prove to himself or anyone else. He is here because he is obligated to his teammates.
During his career Favre has broken numerous records and holds many that are surpassed by no other quarterback so far including Passing Attempts (9,811), Pass completions (6,083), Touchdown Passes (497),Wins as a Starting QB (181), and Passing Yards (69,329).
At this point, it is unsure if Brett will be on the field till the end of this season, but he and the Vikings are hopeful.
The Vikings have two good backup quarterbacks, Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels, but neither has been able to take the team to the Super Bowl.
The Minnesota Vikings wants another chance. They want Brett Favre to lead them all the way because he is the best chance they’ve got.
Brett has a strong arm and set the bar high for himself last year, but in Favre style he will give his best even if his ankle continues to give him problems he will push as long as he absolutely can for his fans and for his team.
