Mike Holmgren spoke out today about his two days visiting with the Browns, and the way it came across it sounds like the Browns may have a new GM by Christmas. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for anybody,” Holmgren said today on his radio show on KJR in Seattle. “It’s about as good a job situation as you could ask for in this business.”
The 61-year-old stepped down as Seahawks head coach at the end of last season, but from the moment he walked away there has been talk about him coming back to the league as either a GM or a coach of another team. For now, it looks as if the Browns are the perfect fit.

There are no words of comfort that seem right when someone is taken from this earth so young. Deep mourning and grief will be felt life long. My heart goes out to his family and all of those who knew and loved him.

Three days later, Bengal nation is still in shock over the loss of WR Chris Henry. I know I am. The fact is that I cannot get it out of my head. I am preoccupied with what exactly happened, and for God’s sake, why?

It appears that despite the Chicago Bears’ woeful season, John Mullin of CSNChicago.com is reporting that a pair of highly placed sources within the Bears’ hierarchy have indicated that there will not be a change at the top of the on-field organizational chart, perhaps due to the possibility of a player strike/lockout. In other words, head coach Lovie Smith will return to the Bears next season.
Expect more clarity down the road in terms to Smith and his return; however, I think that Lovie will return to the Windy City for the 2010 NFL regular season.

Will the Indianapolis Colts rest some of their starters before the playoffs or go for the gusto and try for a 16-0 perfect finish this season. This would put them in the record book next to the New England Patriots.

CHICAGO (Reuters) – The Indianapolis Colts, unbeaten at 14-0, have yet to decide whether to play a full strength team for the final two games of the regular season or rest their top performers before the playoffs, coach Jim Caldwell said.

The Philadelphia Eagles have extended the contract of head coach Andy Reid through the 2013 season.
Reid, also the club’s executive vice president of football operations, is in his 11th season as the team’s head coach. He is the second-longest tenured coach in the NFL, behind only Jeff Fisher, who has been with Tennessee for 16 years.
“In every way he is the epitome of what you are looking for in a coach, he’s got passion and all the qualities you look for in a leader,” said Philadelphia owner Jeffrey Lurie. “Andy has said before that he loves it here and wants to remain here, so we got something done since there was no point in waiting.”

Minnesota Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson suffered a gruesome leg injury in last night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. With just under seven minutes remaining in the game, the Cardinals held a 17-point lead and were trying to run down the clock. Arizona running back Tim Hightower rushed to the right side and headed downfield, where Vikings safety Jamarca Sanford attempted a diving tackle. Hightower broke the tackle and Sanford collided with Henderson, resulting in a ghastly injury. After the game Vikings head coach Brad Childress said Henderson broke his femur and will spend the night in Phoenix.

If you put the neutral-site game in a dome — which would suit both teams, I’m sure — I’d have to give the edge to the New Orleans Saints right now. Both teams have astonishingly good quarterbacks, and offenses that take good-to-great receivers and make them transcendent, but the Saints have the advantage in their Achilles’ heel. Both teams have one obvious flaw. In Indy’s case, it’s the inability of their running game to get anything consistent going. New Orleans has a vulnerable run defense as their primary liability.

The art of sliding, it seems to me, is something that could be taught by any little league coach. When you’re the New York Jets, though, and the man you’re teaching to slide is worth $44.5 million, you might as well bring in the best sliding coach you can find.
How about the manager of the reigning World Champions? Will that do?
That’s who the Jets got. Joe Girardi, manager of the neighborly New York Yankees, took a little field trip over to the Jets practice facility yesterday to teach the Sanchize how to slide. Here’s head coach Rex Ryan, via the New York Post:
