Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys had their way with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Their reward: the NFC East title and the challenge of trying to do it again.
Romo threw a pair of early touchdown passes and the defense took over from there, sending Dallas to a 24-0 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday and setting up a rematch at their new palace next weekend.
? RAVENS 21, RAIDERS 13: At Oakland, Calif., Willis McGahee ran for a career-high 167 yards and three touchdowns and the Ravens clinched an AFC wild-card berth.
During a play the ball is stripped away from Eli Manning’s hands and the Eagles recover. The Eagles take a knee, winning the game 45-38 and ending the Giants’ chances at the East crown, although the wild card is still in play.
Cole can be seen throwing fists at O’Hara and they were both flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The Philadelphia Eagles fans may sound a bit more assailing as they voice in with a bit more sarcasm that most fans, but the Eagles soar with their full support.
After serving time in prison for dogfighting, quarterback Michael Vick signed with the Eagles this season and soon blended into the background.
He was a bit player on the gimmicky Wildcat plays, overweight and pretty much under the radar until he faced the Falcons, his former team, last week in Atlanta.
In relief of the starter Donovan McNabb, Vick — 15 pounds lighter and moving faster — ran for one touchdown and threw for another, his first two scoring plays of the season.
Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid signed a three-year contract extension, four days before a showdown with the New York Giants with a possible postseason spot on the line.
Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed in a news release from the Eagles, who are 8-4 and tied for first place in the National Football Conference East with the Dallas Cowboys.
The extension, which keeps Reid with the National Football League franchise through 2013, comes a season after his team reached the NFC championship game, eliminating the top-seeded Giants in the first round.
The Philadelphia Eagles have extended the contract of head coach Andy Reid through the 2013 season.
Reid, also the club’s executive vice president of football operations, is in his 11th season as the team’s head coach. He is the second-longest tenured coach in the NFL, behind only Jeff Fisher, who has been with Tennessee for 16 years.
“In every way he is the epitome of what you are looking for in a coach, he’s got passion and all the qualities you look for in a leader,” said Philadelphia owner Jeffrey Lurie. “Andy has said before that he loves it here and wants to remain here, so we got something done since there was no point in waiting.”
The NFL couldn’t have scripted a better ending to their first nationally televised Monday Night Football contest of the year. New York Giants rookie Tommie Hill returned a fumble 18 yards for a touchdown with 0:00 on the clock to break open a tie game and give his team a 24-17 victory over the Carolina Panthers in NFL preseason action .
Carolina’s fourth string QB Hunter Cantwell was in a position where he just had to take a knee and run out the clock on first and 10 from his eighteen yard line. Instead, he tried to throw a pass only to have his arm hit forcing a fumble. Hill grabbed the loose ball and headed to the endzone for the shockingly bizarre finish and a Giants victory.
Tom Brady returned to NFL action and looked good in limited playing time as the New England Patriots opened their preseason schedule with a 27-25 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Brady played into the second quarter, moving well and showing no lingering effects of his knee surgery.
The Patriots also rewarded their NFL preseason financial backers by winning outright as a +2 road underdog. The combined 52 points scored shattered the posted total of 32 for an easy OVER.
Bradys solid play was no doubt a heartening sight to Patriots fans, though he had little to say after the game on the specifics on his performance:
